The Chicago Chinese Social Research Group (CCSRG) consists of social science researchers who are interested in economics, business, political science, and China-related research from various departments of the University of Chicago. The initial name of this group was "Chicago Chinese Boys and Girls" (CCBG), imitating a historical nickname “Chicago Boys.” We changed the name later to represent a broader audience.
The working group’s general purpose is to facilitate interdisciplinary discussions and idea exchanges among Chinese scholars on social science research. As the first step, the group strives to push the boundaries of modern economic theory, and further our understanding of China's social reality through empirical analysis. In the long run, we aim to contribute to China's economic and social development through research and practice.
The working group’s primary activity is a weekly research seminar dated back to 2013 Fall Quarter. In the workshop, scholars present their papers in areas including microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, political science, and business research. We welcome works at all stages, and commit to providing feedback across all disciplines.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the sponsors, Euler Capital, Ang Min, Professor Dali Yang, UC-CSSA, Confucius Institute in Chicago, the university student engagement fund, and TRON, for their generous financial support of our weekly catering. We thank our Ph.D. alumni, who benefited from the research group years ago and now feedback to the next generation. They are Hanzhe Zhang (2015), Congyi Zhou (2015), Binbin Deng (2016), Luyi Yang (2017), Guanhao Feng (2017), Jialin Li (2017) and Yinan Su (2018).
